FatherGOOD: gathering and sharing the ingredients which make a good father.
I am going to become a father…
The official due date is February 14th 2024. So, in some ways I am already meeting myself as a father, slowly, day after day. It is exciting, scary and unknown.
It has got me thinking about what makes a good father. I have lots of things I want to try and emulate from my own family and childhood. I am also curious:
What people think makes a good father?
What advice would they give new fathers?
What support would people recommend for new fathers?
So, I want to see how many answers I can collect to the questions above, by D-Day on February 14th 2024.
As well as it being practically useful for me, it feels connecting to receive wisdom from my community and the world more broadly. But, I am also excited by a “what if”…
what if I shared all the answers, in one place, for other fathers-to-be? [or any interested father].
AN IMPORTANT CAVEAT:
In early conversations about this idea, most people have assumed that I would be asking men or experienced fathers for their thoughts… I think we ALL have wisdom about fathering... even if we didn't have a relationship with our father, don't identify as male or aren't part of a family with fathers. So, if you feel comfortable sharing, I'd love to read your thoughts.
